One week in Italia
A week's holiday, visiting la famiglia in the small village of Fondo in Val di Non, Trentino.
Some random notes, awaiting a proper narrative.
Cosina nonesa en ti somasi de Fon - now that's the way Italians like a village fest: organizing it around food. Two days to have lots of local specialities and an excuse to talk about food all weekend.
Canyon river Sass. Fondo is actually built on top of
a gorge, and a couple of years ago, a walkway was opened
through it. Sometimes you could see a house fifty meters above.
Walking in the valley and the mountains.
Testing my vertigo in the
Funicolare
Mendola - St. Antonio
and in the chairlift on the Roën...
Lago di Molveno. Terrific scenery, though too cold to swim.
Touring the region. Val di Non really is the nicest valley by far.
Seeing Verdi's Nabucco at the Fondo Opera Festival.
From Trento runs a narrow gauge line, mostly parallel
to the mainline to Bolzano up to Mezzocorona, where it turns
into Val di Non. The locals call it il trenino.
Ferrovia Trento-Male.
In Trento station FS, we visited visiting the Model railway exhibition
of the
Gruppo
Fermodellistico Arnaldo Pocher.
Accessible only by request - we got a tour from the
Capo di Stazione himself.
Swimming pool, 1km above sea level.
Parlare Italiano - io sono pio bene adesso. Studying paid off.

The cameraphone pics are on flickr. I shot a roll of b/w as well, but the darkroom will have to wait while it's summer!
